I know this charm would creep out my friend Tracy, but I happen to like spiders. I have a connection to them, and have used them in quite a few pieces of artwork. It has to do with my life as a weaver & spinner...something I haven't done for years. But I'll always love spiders. I especailly loved the wonderful webs we would get out on our balcony in CA...so pretty with just a bit of dew on them & the artful weaver sitting somewhere in that web.
I also love bird nests...another skillfully woven masterpiece, made to lay eggs & raise those baby birds until they can fly away on their own. I used a pre-rusted wire for this...it was a bit of a challenge to weave the wire in & out to hold the nest together, but I can see making more of these in the future. My needle nose pliers became a good friend while creating this nest.
I'm a member of the ArtCharms group on Yahoo...and every Thursday night, there is an on-line chat. Most Thursday nights, I forget about it...but last week I remembered to go into the chat. We talked about finding the time to create & also about some swap ideas. I'm not sure how we got onto the topic, but the idea of postage stamps in mica came up & someone asked me to post an example of that...so the last charm above is the one I just made. My friend Kimber sent me a bunch of bird image postage stamps & I selected the one above for my charm. I have a love-hate relationship with mica, but this one turned out ok.
And yes, once again I forgot about the chat last night.
So that's some of what I've been playing with this week...what have you been up to?
ok...no excuses...i have mica, postage stamps and even that same charm...i really need to try making a mica charm...very sweet!

My favorite is the bird nest charm, as I also love bird's nests! Miss you, Debbie, but I thought of you as I incorporated a small piece of your ribbon into my collage for a friend!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments, eBeth & Peggy. I'm having way too much fun making charms right now. It's taken over for my old paper addiction, which I know will resurface one day.
ReplyDeleteeBeth...if you make mica charms, I hope you post them to your blog. And Peggy...I'm glad you're having fun with the ribbons. I'm still addicted to those!
Beautiful charms Debbie! Of course you know I love the bird one. The mica looks great!
