Always Remember

This is a piece I made years ago using a photo of my favorite uncle...Uncle Ed...when he was serving in the Army during World War II.  He is surrounded here by his Mom, my Grandma...and his sister...my Mom.  Home on leave, I assume...and they are all happy for some time together.  Or maybe he is just heading out to war & an uncertain future.  They are all gone now, so I'll never know.

Uncle Ed survived the war & never really talked about it too much, although every so often I'd hear a story of one of his war buddies.  He remained in contact with many of them until the end.  Proud memories of a service to his country...to insure freedom for his daughter & his nieces & nephews...and for all Americans.

Thanks to Uncle Ed...his buddies...my Dad...and to all service men past & present who sacrifice so much for our freedom.  Thanks to all their families for the sacrifice they make, too.

Remember them always...and especially on Memorial Day.
Thank them for our freedom.

Oh...and if you see Veterans at grocery stores or in other public places this weekend...selling Buddy Poppies, give them a couple bucks & proudly wear a poppy.
In case you don't know the significance of the Poppies, be sure to read this poem & story about it,
"In Flanders Fields" , written years ago about the horrors of war.

Got Swizzle?

Remember when cocktails arrived at your table with a cool swizzle stick to stir them?  Often these swizzle sticks would advertise the fine establishment you were enjoying, or even the brand of liquor in your drink.
Vacation souvenirs were as easy as taking the swizzle stick after you finished your lovely cocktail.
Airlines used to have amenities...swizzle sticks or stirrers in your drinks...and even decks of playing cards to entertain yourself during flight.
I've decided it's time for these and others to find a new home...they're so retro kitsch & deserve to be used by someone with a home bar or who just wants a bit of nostalgia for cocktail hour...or a retro cocktail party.  They are available now in my Etsy shop.

I'll be adding more vintage items and lots of destash from my overflowing studio soon, so please check back often.  Thanks for looking!

Happy Mother's Day

This has to be one of my my all time favorite family photos...it's my Aunt Lonnie & my cousin Sally.  Aunt Lonnie was my Godmother, and my favorite aunt.  I'm a lot like her...except I knew I never wanted kids unless they were furry, had paws & purred.  I can see the look of "I'd rather be anywhere else but here" in Aunt Lonnie's eyes in this photo.

Aunt Lonnie is gone now, but Mother's Day is a good day to remember her...along with my Mom & Grandmas, Aunts & other mother figures I've had along my path in life.  Here's to all women who choose the path of motherhood...celebrate them today & all year, too.

And here's to those who realize the path is not for them...we need to protect women's legal rights to choose whether or not the motherhood role is one they want to take.   I completely support a woman's right to choose...and I hope this country is wise enough to continue to allow women this basic human right.  We shouldn't even have to worry about this right being taken away any longer...and men certainly should not be the ones making that decision for women!

Happy Mother's Day to every Mom out there...enjoy your special day.

Happy Birthday, Sunny Cat!

It's Sunny's 5th Birthday today!  So far, all she wants to do is sleep...and wishes I'd just stop trying to take birthday pix.  Hopefully I can update this later with some pix that show her gorgeous eyes open.

I know how it is when you want to enjoy your special day by sleeping in...so enjoy it, Miss Sunny...and Happy Birthday!
